1 Minute To Save The World
One minute. It’s not a long time. Could you save the world in one minute? That was the challenge set by the "1 Minute To Save The World" campaign, a partnership between Greenpeace, Unite for Climate, the World Development Movement, the New Economics Foundation and the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition, with a little help from that green-thumbed newspaper The Guardian.
They asked people to create one minute videos about climate change. Filmmakers were given the freedom to express their thoughts in any way they wanted to, as long as it is all packed into one minute of eco-message, so those creative juices were really flowing! The winners were announced last week and £1000 will go to the winner Arun Bose from India, who’s terrifyingly beautiful film “My Paper Boat” will be screened right in front of world leaders including Gordon Brown and President Obama. But you can watch it right here!
Two other finalists will also be screened at the Millennium Arts CO2 Cube in Copenhagen during the delegate’s VIP event, one of which you can also see here on Ctrl.Alt.Shift: 'Sign'. Plus another of my favourites: 'Pee and Grow'
The judging panel included the likes of Franny Armstrong, Director of “Age of Stupid”, and Bruce Parry, BAFTA Best Documentary winner. The hope is that the shorts will summarise the voice of the wider public, niggling in the backs of leaders minds as they sit down and decide what to do with our planet next month.
