Anyway good luck John. Be strong, think clearly and remeber that subtlety can be far more deep and powerful than over-blown drama and action. To my dear defamer, keep up the good work. Over and Out. t

I am absolutely not against a film that denounces the genocide in Darfur. I am not a 'revisionist', I also believe strongly that films can make a real difference. I just don't like the concept and script of this film. Am I therefore appeasing geocide? That is a weak argument.

the best films are those that spark strong opinion and debate. i think you're on to a winner already with this one. good luck.

art has a RESPONSIBILTY to tackle a subject that our governments clearly have vested interests to not resolve. We turned a bind eye to the other 7 genocides until after they concluded- only to cry 'Never Again'. I hope we're not making the same mistake for Darfur.

warrant talks are getting MINIMAL press, certainly in this country...We look back with Hotel Rwanda and Shooting Dogs, but that's with hindsight. Darfur is happening NOW. The issue of asylum seekers in the UK hasn't, to my cursory knowledge of the arts, been dissected with anything in the arts that

Didn't cal you a Nazi Tim, called you a revisionist. In terms of the treatment, which is why we're here, I don't understand where you take exception? Let's break 'Africa' up and just talk about Darfur? How much attention does it really get? The Doha talks have hardly been reported. The ICC arrest

.. policy to develop and concentrate resources in Khartoum and west of the country that entrenched sectarianism in the country. As I said, I do not doubt John's good intentions, but considering what is at stake his idea is unclear and in danger of exploiting the situation rather than helping.
    • Tim | 2009-02-22 15:27:59
... has chosen to be represented in this film. The terrifying fact is that there is no shortage of films that tackle the issue of violence in Africa, yet they usually forget that many of the crises have their roots in our own colonial legacy. In fact it was British backed...

Firstly, I find it telling that none of the information with which you have 'educated' me is in the treatment to this film. Secondly I think that there is a certain fascism in implying that because there is a horrendous situation in Sudan I am being a 'Nazi' because I take issue with the way it....

Hi John - good luck! Fiona x
    • Megha | 2009-02-22 15:04:55
My comments read bottom up. But Tim, I'd love you to read ALL of it and get in touch so we can educate you. once again, great job John.
    • Megha | 2009-02-22 15:04:07
Well done John. This is a great project and we are very appreciative- Sudan's govt are an ally on the 'war on terror' and due to the West not wanting to break trade ties in terms of the Nile, no one intervenes. it is left to NGOs and artists. Well done. I've shown this to survivors and they thank u

comprehension. Tim, how you react to this, by attacking the wrong people, is much the same as the fence sitters, revisionists, of Nazi Germany. How you are reacting is your legacy: your Armenia, your Auschwitz. Again, please feel free to email me if you need actual facts.
    • Megha | 2009-02-22 15:00:39
John's film is bringing attention to one of the bloodiest chapters in our lifetime. What's the alternative Tim? We turn a blind eye like we did in Rwanda? Like Cambodia? Like Bosnia? Where exactly does John speak of a 'barbaric' Africa? He speaks of a race of people who have been maligned beyond
    • Megha | 2009-02-22 14:58:30
No one in Sudan, and I have spoken to many many many tribes, see the 'other' in terms of Arab vs Black. they just simply do not want to be murdered. they simply want the international community to care. if you want to discuss email me on [email protected]
    • Megha | 2009-02-22 14:56:26
PEOPLE of Sudan. THAT is what John is addressing. the Janjaweed and Sudanese leader Omar Al Bashir aren't even FROM Sudan. They are part of the Arab baggra tribe, they came INTO Sudan and are SLAUGHTERING the people by torching villages and rape (to change the bloodline). I

than 50% by UN undersecretary Jan Egeland in 2006. Also the perpetrators of the genocide- the govt and Janjaweed (Arab militia), to the black tribal villagers in West Sudan, ARE the ones creating violence to PEOPLE of Sudan. Is Africa a barabric nation? NO. But barbaric things are happening to the

To criticise anyone trying to raise awareness for the first genocide of the 21st century is disgusting, but beyond that it is worth educating yourself Tim, on what is happening in Sudan before you leave posts like this. The number of 400,000 has already been claimed to be an underestimate of more...
    • Megha | 2009-02-22 14:48:18
I have a lot to say regarding Tim's comment, and this might stretch to several posts. Firstly i work for Aegis Trust, a prevention of genocide charity (www.aegistrust.org), and lot of our work involves outreach to the people in the Darfur region of Sudan and rehabilitation of survivors in the UK.
    • John | 2009-02-22 13:13:16
How would you prefer they be portrayed!?
    • John | 2009-02-22 13:12:42
Tim, my intention is to investigate the post traumatic stress of a young child who has seen many of his friends and family brutally slaughtered, I am portraying a rebel group who are responsible for slaughtering thousands of innocent people unable to defend themselves.....!!
    • Tim | 2009-02-22 04:30:59
Far from changing attitudes your idea reasserts stereotypes of africa as an essentially violent and barbaric place. You present none of the social or political context to the violence in Sudan, all we see are demonic 'others' on horses with guns. I'm sure your intentions are gd but the idea is awful

There is obvioulsy a glitch - I've seen John on over 1000 votes 3 times now. I'm sure it's all being counted properly SOMEWHERE...

    • Jennie | 2009-02-17 17:54:09
Why is it that the votes keep going down? You had a lot more than this yesterday. Weird.
    • Brenda | 2009-02-16 21:09:12
Glad they have now put the right treatment up! Will make a very moving film!

    • Tim | 2009-02-14 12:51:19
Will trying to recreate war-torn Iraq in Hackney 'illustrate the stark realities of war'? Also you seem to have a reactionary view of kids' games: play can be a positive means to express and come to terms with trauma, and using our imagination a form of resistance.
    • john | 2009-02-14 09:53:08
